Cantine Valpane Rosso Pietro Barbera del Monferrato DOC 2021

A single varietal Barbera of Monferrato DOC, this delicious, medium-bodied red wine is full of pleasure, with fruity aromas of black cherry and black currant followed by fern and cloves. In the mouth it has an excellent drinkability with pops of morello cherry, a slight salinity, notes of dark bittersweet cocoa and a lingering finish of acidic fruits. It's a perfectly versatile trattoria wine -- great with food and without.

Cantine Valpane was founded in 1898. The vineyard where these grapes were grown is 4 hectare, planted in 2000/2005, with clay and limestone soil. Fermented in cement tanks for 21-23 days, then aged 10-12 months in stainless steel and cement before bottling without fining or filtering, then three months in the bottle before sale.

Winemaker Pietro Arditi’s grandfather was also named Pietro, and the name of this bottling, "Rosso Pietro," is a nod to his red (rosso) hair and beard. Young Pietro jokes that he might change the name to “Grigio Pietro” for his own gray beard.
