Château Belgrave Haut-Médoc 2015
Lovely deep, concentrated appearance to this rich and complex wine. Elegant on the nose, where intense, dark berry fruit aromas intermingle with spice and licorice. Initially fresh, bright, crisp and delicate on the palate, with a core of vibrant red berries, herbs, wet earth, leaf and spice, gaining rapidly in intensity to reveal rich and flavorsome mouthfeel, underpinned by fine-grained, silky tannins. The wine culminates in a long, lingering and racy finish, defined by freshness, spice and cocoa.
74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot grown on gravelly soil. Harvested by hand using small crates, sorted optically. Fermented in stainless-steel vats of various capacities. Partial malolactic fermentation in barrels.
Situated at the extremities of the St-Julien appellation, separated from its neighbor Château Lagrange by only a stream, Château Belgrave is one of the oldest Cru vineyards in the Médoc. Under the official Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855, it was classified as a "5th Growth" because of the exceptional quality of its deep gravel soils.
