Jérôme Galeyrand Bourgogne Rouge "Antonin" 2022
"Antonin" offers up aromas of light red fruits, flowers and spices, followed by a medium-bodied, ample and fleshy palate that's lively and mouthwatering, with warm spices and nice fruit concentration. Crisp, fresh and beautifully bright, this perennial over-performer is lively, vibrant and fresh, with layers of red cherry, raspberry and bramble berry fruits, powdery mineral tannins, great linearity and a long finish.
Originally from the Loire, Jérôme Galeyrand does not come from a winemaking family. He worked for eight years in the food industry. Then, after harvesting for a couple of years at Domaine Alain Burguet in Gevrey-Chambertin as of 1996, he became inspired and motivated to embark on his own estate project, and so enrolled at the wine institute in Beaune. In 2002, he bought his first vineyard plot (a miniscule 0.05 hectares!) and carried out his own vinification that September. Since then, Galeyrand expanded the holdings to five hectares of vines and harvests every year with a group of well-trained friends.
Vinification takes place in a small winery at his home without any technological processes. His goal is terroir transparency. Jérôme’s wines are precise, refined and elegant, beautifully perfumed, positively delicious.
Jérôme Galeyrand is one of Burgundy’s rising stars and a true artisan of terroir. Based in the Côte de Nuits, Galeyrand has steadily built a reputation for crafting soulful, expressive wines that marry elegance with authenticity. Galeyrand's meticulous, organic and biodynamic farming and low-intervention cellar work allow each parcel to speak with clarity -- an ethos deeply evident in the radiant and refined 2022 releases.
This is some of the most exciting Burgundy we’ve brought in this year. These wines are floral, expressive and a touch wild. These punch way above their weight for the price—especially while Galeyrand remains relatively under the radar.
