Johan Vineyards "Estate" Pinot Noir 2022

On the nose, savory and tart aromas of black cherry, raspberry leaf, rich spices of clove and anise, a squeeze of blood orange and hints of savory herbs and earth. In the mouth, medium-bodied, round and juicy, flavors of raspberry puree, spicy chicory root and clove, with notes of black tea. Bright acidity and integrated tannins. This Pinot is a cool climate cool customer finishing with turned earth and pine tips along with a concentrated pomegranate pulp at a lively finish.

The objective of Johan Vineyards’ Estate Pinot Noir is to create a bottling that is representative of the whole farm, a direct translation of the growing season and the most accurate representation of the vineyard's true terroir. Parcels of fruit are carefully selected from every rootstock/scion combination, aspect, vine age and soil profile, creating a collage of the diverse expressions of the vineyard. The grapes are then vinified, aged and bottled separately from the other lots. This bottling is always the most representative of the growing year, as it incorporates every element of the farm for better or worse. It is the most accurate representation of Johan Vineyards’ terroir.

The 2022 vintage was fermented using exclusively native yeast (both primary and malolactic), with some whole-cluster fermentation. The wine was aged for 11 months in French oak barrels, 4% of which were new. Bottled unfiltered and unfined.

Located in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, within the Van Duzer Corridor AVA, Johan Vineyards is a 175-acre Demeter-certified biodynamic estate vineyard and winery with 87 acres under vine. Their goal is to create a self-sustained holistic farm system with the energy to produce an honest expression of itself to share with others.
