Lightsome White Field Blend 2024
Lightsome's first white wine is a field blend of 65% Grenache Blanc and 35% Vermentino from the Texas Hill Country. Expect notes of ripe melon, umami and guava.
The grapes come from Two Tales Vineyard, located outside of Pontotoc in the Llano uplift, which is a geologic dome stretching 90 miles in diameter and comprised largely of granite. The section of the Llano uplift that holds this vineyard is also comprised of a good amount of sandstone. The Grenache Blanc in this blend was on the riper side at harvest, with the Vermentino bringing in the acidity. Full malolactic fermentation gave the wine a round and savory finish.
After the fruit was hand harvested, it was brought to the winery, where it was foot-stomped and loaded directly into a basket press. Both varieties were pressed together for co-fermentation. The juice was racked once off of gross lees and fermented in stainless steel. The wine was fermented by native yeast and bacteria and packaged unfined and unfiltered.
