Occhipinti "SP68" Bianco Terre Siciliane IGT 2024
Named for the road near winemaker Arianna Occhipinti's home vineyard in Vittoria, "SP68" Bianco is an aromatic and elegant white wine with notes of Mediterranean herbs and white flowers, along with pink grapefruit, lychee and white peach. Fresh on the palate, with a slightly herbaceous quality and a dry finish.
This blend of Zibibbo and Albanello grapes is expertly grown on red sand soils over limestone rock, creating a rich and complex taste. The two varietals are native to Sicily, and are grown on vines averaging 15 years old on several different estate sites. The vines are organically/biodynamically farmed and hand-harvested. The fruit is destemmed and skin macerated for 15 days, fermented with indigenous yeast and aged for six months in concrete, plus one month in bottle (bottled unfiltered) before release.
Winemaker Arianna Occhipinti is the niece of Guisto Occhipinti whose COS wines have been stuff of legend in Sicily. Following her uncle's footsteps, Arianna makes some of the best wine in the area, arguably in all of Italy. The "natural woman" of Italian wine, Occhipinti started this fantastic project in 2004, after finishing her studies as a winemaker in Milan, applying biodynamic farming principles since the very beginning for a more eco-conscious and authentic approach to local grape varietals. "Siccagno" is her interpretation of Nero D’Avola and it represents the enchanting land where it is produced: wild, intense, gentle, passionate, warm and full of contrasts.
As one of the most influential voices in the natural wine movement, Arianna has brought the Sicilian grape varieties to new heights. Her wines reflect the subtle nuances of the various terroirs. Occhipinti stands for a scientifically sound, yet natural approach that characterises the wine world far beyond Sicily.
