Pedro Parra "Vinista" País 2022
This is a bright, vibrant red wine, made from the intriguing País grape. Virtually unknown outside of Chile, this grape played a vital role in the country’s wine industry until the introduction of Bordeaux grapes in the 20th century. It begins with a bouquet of raspberry, strawberry, wild mint, orange peel and mulled wine spices. Fresh, taut and tangy, with grippy, earthy tannins and layers of tar, rose petal and pomegranate. País meets Nebbiolo.
This is a complete expression of old vine País from Itata. 100% País sourced from four different dry-farmed vineyards from two of the most famous sub regions, Gaurilihue and Nipas. Both are famed for two very different soils. The first for black silty basalt, the latter granite. The grapes were hand-harvested and fermented whole cluster with indigenous yeast in open oak and steel tanks, then aged in concrete and foudre for one year. The mix of terroir and aging vessels allows all facets of the variety to express themselves. Aromatic, fresh, ripe and savory. Enjoy it now, or cellar for up to 10 years. Decant for up to an hour before serving.
Pedro Parra was born in Concepción, Chile, and he is raising his family there now. Pedro holds a PhD in terroir from the Paris Center of Agriculture, with six years’ experience in French terroirs.
