Sage Rat "Ratto Bianco" 2022
Vivid notes of lemon-lime zest stand at attention, popping amongst aromas of granny smith apple, juicy nectarine, green pear, orange blossom, and lemongrass. Bright, mouth-watering flavors of candied lime, just-ripened apricot, crisp apple, and jasmine grace the palate. This perky white wine is perfect for Sauvignon Blanc lovers who want something different. Similarities between these wines make themselves known in their aromatic intensity and zesty citrus, while the differences show in texture and fruit quality. Grapefruit, gooseberry, and tropical flavors (like pineapple) for Sauvignon Blanc, versus lime, stone fruit (apricot/peach), crisp orchard fruits (apple/pear), and jasmine/lemongrass in this wine. Delicious, easy to love and easy to share.
Based in the Yakima Valley, the heart of grape-growing for Washington State, Sage Rat was founded by winekaker Dusty Jenkins only in 2020. Dusty has chosen to work primarily with Itallian grape varieties, finding a kinship with them in the Yakima soils and climate. His Ratto Bianco is an unusual blend of 50% Riesling, 25% Pinot Grigio and 25% Orange Muscat, fermented together in stainless steel, aged on the lees for four months and bottled unfined and unfiltered. Only 186 cases made.
