Sandro Fay Valtellina Superiore Valgella Riserva "Carteria" DOCG 2019

This ethereal expression of Nebbiolo (also called Chiavennasca) opens with rich density and ripe fruit intensity. Primary hints of rose and violet are combined with evolved but delicate nuances of sweet spices, tobacco and cocoa in a soft, clean and full-bodied taste, with an energetic and persistent freshness. Pretty tones of cola, dried ginger and licorice round out the back and the wine is fresh and well-structured overall with firm, drying tannins.

100% Nebbiolo (Chiavennasca) with Guyot and Sylvoz valtellinese trellis style from the Valgella, Municipality of Teglio. The vineyards are situated under 450 meters, with southern exposure, on sandy and silty soil. Alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tank; malolactic fermentation and aging for 12 months in oak casks. 

The Carterìa vineyard covers an area of three hectares in the Valgella sub-zone at 500 meters; the name stems from the name of a small hamlet of the commune of Teglio, where the Fay family has always owned some plots of land. The winery has started incorporating this land into its estate and replanting the vines.
