Storm Point Red Blend 2023

A killer South African blend. Named after the storms that dominated nautical exploration centuries ago in the Western Cape, this blend is made to showcase the goodness of the Rhône varieties grown in the Swartland. Syrah serves as the canvas, with Cinsault providing bright red fruit flavors and Carignan painting the deeper colors.

The Syrah and Carignan were fermented whole cluster and the Cinsault was fully-destemmed. Reminiscent of a fine Rhône wine but still so South African with vibrant freshness. Aged in older barrels for nearly a year. Younger vines mean this blend is a fresher, more vibrant expression of these grapes’ usually hearty tendency.

Luscious red and purple berry fruit jump out on the nose and continue on the palate, with a bright line of acidity throughout and a lacy, fine herbal spice on the finish. Fine tannic structure gives this wine a serious edge despite its core of juicy fruit. Drink slightly chilled.

In 1488 Bartolomeu Dias made the first modern rounding of the "Cape of Storms." Hundreds of previous attempts were made but the rugged lands of South Africa were protected by the rough seas and punishing storms. "Storm Point" remains a fabled place to this day. The unruly landscape and intense growing season of the Swartland is the bedrock for this wine.
