Volker Wines "Von Donabaum" Grüner Veltliner 2023
A clean, crisp Grüner with a nose of freshly cut grass, green apple, white peach, chalk and lime-zest. Lean and mineral-driven, it has zesty-acidity and flavors of slate, lemon peel, and elegant white flowers.
Dating from the 16th century, the historic estate where this Grüner Veltliner is grown is located in the center of the village of Spitz in the Wachau region of Austria. Johann Donabaum Jr., a fourth-generation winegrower, took over the company in 1997 and, with the help of his wife Andrea, has radically transformed the quality of what is produced here.
Volker Donabaum, the founder of Volker Wines, has been in the wine industry practically since birth. He grew up on the Donabaum family estate, where the family has been making wine since 1833. Volker worked several harvests in Austria before working as an assistant winemaker in California, France, Italy, New Zealand, Australia, Oregon and Canada. In 2012, Volker moved to New York City, where he imported and distributed wines from around the world.
