Easton Amador County Zinfandel 2018
This hand-crafted Zinfandel is spirited and sleekly elegant, bold and full-bodied, with ripe, jammy dark fruit flavors and hints of spice, all integrated by a bit of bottle age. Full black cherry and blackberry fruit aromas lead to expressive flavors of raspberry and cracked white pepper, with stony mineral accents and a big, sumptuous, and juicy mouthfeel and long, snappy finish. A nice creamy texture is derived from 10 months aging in French oak barrels. This is a bold, luscious, fruit-forward wine that balances ripeness and spiciness perfectly.
The grapes come from California's Amador County, known as one of the best locations for this finicky varietal because of (truly) old vines, nutrient rich soils, warm days and cool nights. The beautiful, rolling mountain hills have the classic, vermilion-colored, Amador decomposed granite soil.
This is consistently rated one of the top Zinfandels in its class and one of the best value Zinfandels available. Although drinkable now, it gains complexity with bottle age.
Easton strives to manage their vineyards and winemaking with as little impact on the environment as possible. The vineyards are farmed sustainably and organically. The winery and tasting room facilities are solar-powered. The sun provides about 90% of the electrical power needed to run pumps, wine press and cooling units.
