L'Equinox "To Maike And The Rest" Macerated Chenin Blanc 2023

A skin-contact Chenin Blanc fermented for twelve days on 100% whole bunches, made with heart. The oxidative style results in a complex wine with good acidity.

Grown in the Paardeberg area of the Swartland region, the vines set root in granite soils beneath a sandy top layer varying in depth. This is a wine made from grapes picked early for freshness, and with minimal sulphur. The resulting wine is naturally acidic and lower in alcohol. Aged in small oak barrels. 1196 bottles produced.

"To Maike and the Rest" is a testament to our journeys in life, the friends we share them with and those no longer with us. Symbolised by a mapped trail hike on Devil’s Peak, this is a nod to reminders in unexpected places.

Made by MC Stander, a newcomer to the Swartland wine scene who leases vines he farms organically as well as sourcing fruit from other local organic and biodynamic growers. MC is always looking for freshness in his wines and has a light touch in the cellar, but keeps an eye on refinement and clarity, giving his wines a true sense of identity and purpose. He is inspired by the Beaujolais traditions in France and aims to create natural wines.
