Domaine Goisot Bourgogne Blanc Cotes d'Auxerre 2023
A classic Chablis-style white Burgundy offering stone fruit and mineral notes, bright acidity, delicate texture, excellent minerality and some nice creaminess. Good lenth and a clean refreshing finish. Goisot delivers quality and value above the caliber of Chablis with a wine that is concentrated, yet soft. Unlike the chalky notes often associated with Chablis, this veers into more overt aromas of flint and ash. Further, it has a nice slippery texture with subtle grassiness and light nectarine flavors upheld with lively acidity.
From limestone-rich slopes near Saint-Bris, Goisot’s Côte d’Auxerre Blanc is a pure expression of northern Burgundy Chardonnay. The Côtes d'Auxerre is in the Yonne Valley, a part of Burgundy just outside of Chablis. The estate-grown grapes are farmed biodynamically, underpinning the wine's clarity. Vinified with native yeasts in stainless steel and aged on lees in tank and barrel, it balances texture with taut mineral drive. A defining example of the Auxerrois terroir’s quiet strength.
The Goisot family hails from the small appellation of Saint-Bris, which geographically speaking, is part of Chablis, but was exiled from the appellation after phylloxera. While the history of winemaking in Burgundy dates back centuries, Jean-Hugues Goisot was among Burgundy's earliest fathers of biodynamic viticulture. His son, Guillaume, maintains this rigorous commitment with the family today. The Goisot family knows that in order to be one of the top producers in Burgundy, especially within an appellation that fought long and hard for a share of the spotlight, the wines would need to shine even brighter. They have a firm understanding of the region’s terroir, and their wines consistently radiate quality and value.
