Ledge Vineyards Adams Ranch Vineyard Estate Grenache 2022
Dark purple fruit, pepper, mint, smoke, intense violet aromas and herbal forest floor notes lead the nose of this blend of 60% Grenache and 40% Syrah. There's a fine grip to the sip, where bold flavors of snappy red fruit and dank herbs align. A pure, layered, medium to full-bodied style, as well as a darker slant in its blackberry, peppery, violet and spring flower-driven aromas and flavors. It shows the incredibly pure, aromatic character of the vintage beautifully and is reminiscent of a top Châteauneuf du Pape from sandy soils. Gorgeous mouthfeel, ultra-fine tannins, integrated acidity and just a seductive, seamless, incredibly sexy, complex style. Drink 2025-2040.
Ledge Vineyards is a family-owned, boutique winery Paso Robles Wine Country Alliance located in the Willow Creek District of Paso Robles. Founded by winemaker Mark Adams, it produces highly rated Rhône varietals. Adams transitioned from a career in sound effects in Los Angeles to winemaking, learning the craft while working under his childhood friend, Justin Smith, at the esteemed Saxum Vineyards.
The talented Mark Adams makes wines from his estate, Adams Ranch Vineyard. The Adams Ranch is quite unique in Paso Robles, comprising sandy clay/loam soils and gravelly stones atop a sandstone ledge at the base of the Santa Lucia Mountain Range. This is a cooler location, so Ledge has an advantage over other local producers even in warmer vintages. Regardless, Adams leans into a more energetic and nervy style that makes these wines stand out in the region. This is not your typical Paso Robles fruit. Many of the vines are own-rooted and dry-farmed. Ledge wines are widely praised for balancing bold Paso Robles fruit power with freshness, delicacy and savory nuance.
