Head High "Shoreline Series" Skin Contact Sonoma County 2022
"Skin contact" white wines, often referred to as orange wine, is a fascinating category of white wines made with a winemaking process more similar to that of reds. The key characteristic of these wines is the fermentation of grapes with the grape skins, which imparts color, flavor, and texture to the final product. Depending on how long the juice ferments with the skins it can range in color from golden-straw yellow to vibrant amber.
Head High's Shoreline Series orange wine is a true embodiment of summer in every sip. Its slight golden hue is a result of a seven-day fermentation on skins, adding to its unique character. The wine was then matured for ten months using a combination of neutral French oak and stainless-steel barrels making it nice and crisp.
The bouquet has notes of apricot, tangerine, ripe peaches and honeysuckle followed by nuanced flavors of subtle sea salt, bitter orange peel and tea tannin. Perfectly versatile, this wine complements a range of dishes, from grilled seafood to creamy pasta, making it a great addition to any occasion.
Head High's Shoreline Series is a love letter to the west coast. All four wines are very limited production, winemaker select, adorned with coastal vignettes as label art. The ocean's indelible influence on the vineyards imparts a unique and unmistakable character to each vintage.
