Amantis "Birbanera" Montecucco Rosso DOC 2018
Intense ruby red colour with plenty of dark fruit and wild berry aromas and hints of purple flower, leather and black tea on this blend of 80% Sangiovese and 20% Canaiolo. The easy-drinking, medium-bodied, chewy palate doles out black raspberry, Morello cherry, black pepper and baking spice alongside polished tannins and a juicy finish. The characteristic features of the Canaiolo soften the austerity of the Sangiovese, conferring roundness, volume and spicy aromas to this wine -- a crowd pleasing blend.
Vinification starts in stainless steel vats to optimize parcellar selection. Cold pre-fermentation maceration for five days with several pumping over and punch-downs. Maceration on the skins for 2-3 weeks. Aged in small oak casks of two and three years, then in bottle for a minimum of 10 months.

The Birbanera vineyard is In the area where the clay reaches the surface of the soil, a very particular Canaiolo “dal raspo rosso” (with red stem) has been planted. This vineyard comes from “mass selection,” a process in which the plants that provide grapes of best quality are chosen and reproduced.
