Charles Joguet "Les Petites Roches" Chinon 2021

This vibrant, organic Cabernet Franc hails from the Chinon appelation in France's Loire Valley, known for its purity, elegance and classic Chinon character. The young, peppery nose with tart red currant aromas practically jumps out of the glass. On the palate, bright red fruits (raspberry, cherry) follow through to a spicy, astonishingly lengthy finish with silky tannins and good freshness. A satisfying match for charcuterie or creamy fresh goat cheese, which complement the refreshing acidity.

100% Cabernet Franc from vines planted in the 1930s. The vineyard Les Petites Roches, with its predominantly clay and moderately chalky hillsides and plateaux, offers wines with red fruit aromas with a nice mineral structure. This wine undergoes prolonged aging in 1-3 year old barrels for 12-15 months. Charles Joguet wines are certified organic.

Since its founding by Charles Joguet in 1957, the estate has sought to provide an exquisite showcase for the terroirs of Chinon, based on a simple idea: wine as an expression of its region. Alongside his mother, the Widow Joguet-Malécault (whose initials feature on the foil cover), Charles Joguet produced his first cuvées. Between 1962 and 1976, the vineyard was extended through several different plantations: Les Varennes du Grand Clos, the Clos de la Cure, and the Clos du Chêne Vert. Today, it covers more than 30 hectares (mostly planted with Cabernet Franc) spread across more than 25km, with a wide variety of terroirs (alluvial soil, gravel, clay, limestone, etc.).
