Georges Noellat Côtes de Nuits Villages Rouge 2022
A serious Burgundy with an even color and a high-class nose. The flavor absolutely fills the mouth with perfectly poised ripe red cherry, cool fruit, spice and mineral elements. Fruit-forward and juicy palate, supple tannin and fresh acidity. A strong Village.
This 100% Pinot Noir is comprised of 60% fruit from Comblanchien vines planted in the 1980s and 40% from Brochon vines planted in the 1960s, both in very shallow limestone soils. The grapes were de-stemmed, followed by 10 to 12-day pre-fermentation cold maceration in stainless steel, fermented by indigenous yeast, then aged in barrel (25% new) for 18 months.
Georges Noëllat was the nephew of Charles Noëllat, who was once the proprietor of one of Vosne’s greatest domaines. As of 1990, Domaine Georges Noëllat sold its production to Jadot and Drouhin for 20 years. Enter 20-year-old Maxime Cheurlin in 2010, who consequently took over the management of the estate from his grandmother. Cheurlin grew up in Champagne, but it seems Burgundy wine is truly in his blood as he is a nephew of the Jayer family and a cousin of Emmanuel Rouget’s sons. Thus, he complemented his winemaking studies at the Lycée du Viticole in Beaune with stages at Domaine Emmanuel Rouget and Domaine Gros Frère et Soeur in 2009.
