Montrubí Gaintus Radical 2020
Gaintus Radical surprises from the first sight. Bright ruby colour, very different from the classic stereotype of “Spanish wine.” On the nose, vibrant aromas of sour cherries and a touch of rusticity, while the palate is brimming with red fruits flavors and spicy notes. Dry, with moderate fresh acidity, incredible zip from the acidity and tannins. Extremely complex, it does not go unnoticed.
100% Sumoll. Vines are planted at over 500 meters (1650 feet). Manual selective harvest, cold skins contact. Fermentation in stainless-steel tanks using indigenous yeast. The wine is extracted by a slow vertical pressing followed by 4 months of ageing in 300 liters old French oak barrels on the fine lees. Biodynamic, certified organic, vegan.
The Montrubí estate, which is located in the Penedès region of Catalonia, was founded in 1984 by the Peris family. Their vision was to craft unique terroir wines using local grape varieties such as Xarel-lo, Sumoll and Garnacha while subscribing to an organic winemaking philosophy. The bodega and vineyards are situated in an area over 2,000 feet above sea level just 60 kilometres west of Barcelona. MontRubí was named in honour of the 19th century property in L’Avellà town that the Peris family refurbished to house the winery. The philosophy at MontRubí is one of traditional viticulture; sustainable and environmentally friendly, albeit with a simultaneous commitment to innovation.
