Shelter "Lovely Lilly" Pinot Noir 2021
Gorgeous, soft, lightweight Pinot Noir from Baden, the region lying right over the French border with Alsace. Winemakers Hans-Bert Espe and Silke Wolf of Shelter Winery have an entire range of polished and gentle wines in this area, where it's otherwise common to make large and alcoholic wines. This Pinot Noir is an antidote to cumbersome California versions of this delicate grape.
Light ruby color with aromas of fresh strawberries, raspberries and cranberries and a subtle accent of spice. The palate is energetic with plenty of refreshment and a lively mineral core to compliment the crunchy red-fruit flavors. Good varietal character with brisk acidity that calls for a light chill.
"Lovely Lilly" is named after the vineyard and cellar dog, Lilly, who passed in 2014.
