The Marigny Pinot Noir Super Deluxe Cuvée 2024
This "Super Deluxe" Pinot Noir evokes crunch berries, cherry chapstick, micro-hiking in the summer when the forest is perfumed with new growth, raspberry sorbet, European cafés when you’re young and invincible, a worn-in flannel shirt, Marionberry pie with a graham cracker crust and canned cherries picked during summertime.
This single vineyard bottling was farmed organically in a vineyard certified organic by Oregon Tilth. 12 to 14 days of carbonic maceration in stainless steel and concrete. All lots pressed to French oak with the majority being older, neutral-flavored barrels and some being slightly newer (2nd and 3rd fill). SO2 added after malolactic was complete. Assembled and racked to stainless steel two weeks before bottling without additional SO2. The Marigny's Super Deluxe wines are what other winemakers might call “Reserve.” Wines with a little more time in barrel to smooth out the edges.
The Marigny winemaker Andrew Reginald Young left behind a career as a New Orleans rock drummer in 2012 to make low-intervention wines from cooler climate vineyard sites in the Willamette Valley. He works with a lot of carbonic maceration to keep the wines light, all fermented with native yeasts and minimal intervention in the winery.
