Brood Fermentation "Lemonade Cake" Rosé 2023

"Lemonade Cake" is a textural orange wine/rose combination, retaining Nelsons acidity and phenolic structure, and sealed with a crown for easy access. Technically more of a red/white blend than a rosé, you'll find notes of rose water, white peach, raspberries, grapefruit and Moroccan spice. It’s a playful and fun wine that can be enjoyed on any occasion. From lunchtime day sessions to a more complex rosé during those long summer meals, Lemonade Cake is here for you!

The winemakers at Brood wanted to create a wine for their friends and family that showcases the individual vintage as a whole. This wine is a big blend of nearly every grape they farmed -- Gewurztraminer, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling. A blend of everything they love for everyone they love. This is truly fruit salad in a bottle.

The skin-contact Gewurztraminer and whole bunch pressed Sauvignon blanc make the foundation of this aromatic crusher, followed by blending and co-fermenting small portions of every varietal the winemakers process during the vintage: carbonic and skin contact Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay and Riesling. Organic and dry-farmed vineyards, wild fermentation, no fining, no filtration and minimal sulfur at bottling. This wine is an accessible crowd-pleaser anyone at the table.

"Brood" is a beekeeping term for the part of a hive where life is regenerating. "Fermentation" is an incredible, natural process of chemical change. Putting the two words together already evokes a lot. Winemakers Lauren Yap and Jim Brown collectively worked across the beer, wine, hop and malt industries for 10+ years and have now landed in the rich fruit basket that is Nelson, New Zealand. They dry farm their own organic vineyard with biodynamic practices and make minimal intervention wine.

The name "Lemonade Cake" is an ode to one of the winemakers' favourite childhood books, "Seven Silly Eaters."
