Feudi Di San Gregorio "San Greg" Rosato 2024
A pale and brilliant pink color wine with a fresh profile. On the nose, it reveals aromas of blood orange, hibiscus, ripe strawberries and raspberries with a hint of citrus. On the palate, it is refreshing and well-balanced, with a lively acidity that enhances its fresh flavours of citrus, white flowers and just-picked red fruits. The finish is clean and persistent, leaving a pleasant sensation of freshness.
"San Greg" is 100% Aglianico grown on the highest hills of Irpinia, Campania, reaching almost 700 meters above sea level. The vineyards, of different ages, are located on marly-limestone and marly-arenaceous soils, in sunny and windy hills. Aglianico, typical of this area, is perhaps the most consumed varietal throughout history, as even the ancient Greeks used it in their wines. Today, Aglianico remains a fundamental component in the region of Campania, growing on marl-limestone and sandy soils, where this winery continues to perpetuate this tradition.
The Aglianico grapes, harvested scrupulously by hand, are taken to the cellar and placed directly in the press, thus obtaining the noblest part of the juice for a very clean and clear must. Fermentation takes place for 2-3 weeks in steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 16-18°C, followed by maturation for four months in steel prior to bottling.
The tradition of the aperitif dates back to 18th century Italy, where the nobles of the time would have a drink before dinner -- generally bitter and alcoholic -— to help stimulate the appetite. With its ups and downs, this small custom has endured over time. Now, Feudi San Gregorio arrives ready to make it more fashionable than ever with Feudi di San Gregorio "San Greg" Rosato.
Founded in 1986, Feudi di San Gregorio is the largest family-owned winery in Southern Italy. Owned and managed by the Capaldo Family, the estate has 740+ acres of vineyards, made up of over 800 plots with varying altitudes and exposure.
