Montrubí "L'Ancestral" Rosé Pét-Nat 2022
A zippy, fresh yet complex rosé Pét-Nat of the rare Sumoll grape, from the Penedés region in France. Sour cherry, dried flowers and pomegranate aromas. Crisp and juicy on the palate with a touch of rusticity. Good structure and long finish.
Manual harvest. Direct pressing of whole grapes and fermentation in concrete deposits using indigenous yeast. The fermentation ends in the bottle allowing carbon dioxide to be produced by the natural sugars found in the grapes (ancestral method “Pét-Nat). No filtering, no fining. Biodynamic, certified organic, vegan.
The Montrubí estate, which is located in the Penedès region of Catalonia, was founded in 1984 by the Peris family. Their vision was to craft unique terroir wines using local grape varieties such as Xarel-lo, Sumoll and Garnacha while subscribing to an organic winemaking philosophy. The bodega and vineyards are situated in an area over 2,000 feet above sea level just 60 kilometres west of Barcelona. MontRubí was named in honour of the 19th century property in L’Avellà town that the Peris family refurbished to house the winery. The philosophy at MontRubí is one of traditional viticulture; sustainable and environmentally friendly, albeit with a simultaneous commitment to innovation.
