Pielihueso Rosado Primero 2021
Rosado Primero is a Petit Verdot rosé from Los Chacayes in the Uco Valley, with a touch of Pinot Noir and Malbec for lightness and freshness. It's aged in used barrels and ceramic amphorae. A structured rosé with no added sulfites.
A blend of 90% Petit Verdot, 5% Pinot Noir and 5% Malbec organically farmed in Los Chacayes. These come from three hectares of vineyards planted in 2009 on alluvial and sandy soils at an elevation of around 4200 feet. Native fermentation takes place in amphor and used barriques. Aged on the lees and unfiltered.
Pielihueso is a young wine project from the Bartolomé family, born in Los Chacayes, with the goal of making minimally intervening wines, wines that evoke emotion and surprise. "Pielihueso" is Spanish for “skin and bones.” The name refers to the quest to showcase the place and the grape as honestly as possible, to reveal the pit.
This estate began in 2017 when father/daughter combo Celina and Alejandro Bartolome planted vines in Los Chacayes and Los Sauces (both subregions of the Uco Valley located within Tunuyan). The wines are all farmed organically and made with no intervention, fermented with native yeast, and a low addition of sulfur is added just before bottling.
Alejandro comes from a long background in organic farming and this is the family’s first foray into wine. The labels were created by the family, too! Carmela, the other daughter designed the labels from their brother’s artwork. The wineries style is making light, bright, clean and vibrant wines!
