Alta Marfa "Road Soda" Sparkling Red Pét-Nat 2022
With flavors of POG juice, cranberries and ginger candy, Road Soda is Alta Marfa's light, playful, highly fruity pét-nat, a blend of 50% Tempranillo, 50% Viognier grown in the Texas High Plains.
The Tempranillo and Viognier, both from Crooked Post Vineyard, were hand harvested, destemmed and spontaneously co-fermented on the skins in polyethylene egg for about six days until dry, then Malvasia Bianca juice was tiraged at bottling, allowing a secondary fermentation in the bottle. Aged on the lees for 14 months, then disgorged.
The 2021 vintage was originally released and known under the name "Unwined 2021." Alta Marfa later rebranded this popular, light, fruity bubbly to "Road Soda" starting with the 2022 vintage.
Alta Marfa is a small winery in Marfa, Texas, making unique wines with grapes grown by wonderful farmers in Texas and New Mexico, as well as the winery's own grapes grown in the Texas Davis Mountains AVA.
