Braida "Montebruna" Barbera d'Asti DOCG 2022
Braida's "Montebruna" Barbera d'Asti is violet ruby red in color, offering a fragrant and perfumed bouquet, with notes of oak, lilies and violets, fresh blackberries, sour cherries and a touch of almond. Fresh on the palate, full-bodied, rich and full of ripe cherry, blackberry and plum fruit, with hints of pepper, leather, chocolate and spices. Vibrant acidity keeps this focused, and light tannins lift the finish. Shows fine balance and length.
This wine consists of 100% Barbera grapes, which are known for their strong acidity and intense fruit aromas. The Barbera grape originally comes from Piedmont and is particularly widespread in the Monferrato region. It is characterized by its adaptability and robustness, which makes it particularly interesting for cultivation in various microclimates. A special feature of Montebruna is its origin from the vineyards around Rocchetta Tanaro, which are characterized by a temperate continental climate with hot summers and cold winters. The growing system of the vines is traditionally Guyot, which allows optimal solar radiation and air circulation. Montebruna is fermented for two weeks in temperature-controlled steel tanks, then aged for one year in large oak barrels, which gives it a subtle woody note and perfectly brings out the natural aromas of the Barbera grape.
Located in Rocchetta Tanaro in Piedmont, Braida is an iconic family-run winery that revolutionized the reputation of the Barbera grape. Founded in 1961 by Giacomo Bologna, it is famous for being the first to age Barbera in French barriques, elevating it from a simple table wine to a world-class, internationally acclaimed masterpiece.
