
Can Sumoi Garnatxa Sumoll 2023
Some say that Can Sumoi Sumoll-Garnatxa 2022 is a pure, unadulterated fruit bomb with a supple and velvety texture. Others say it's dry and very fresh in the mouth, with a moderate length and a very fresh finish. On the nose, it unfurls a spectrum of scents with red fruits such as strawberries and cherries taking center stage, complemented by a subtle hint of wild berries. On the palate, its youthfulness manifests in a velvety texture and a fruit-forward taste that echoes the berries detected in its bouquet, underpinned by a well-balanced acidity that adds to its succulent and revitalizing profile. The Can Sumoi vineyard is planted with Sumoll, a variety that is at risk of extinction in Penedès and is known as the “Mediterranean Pinot Noir.” The Can Sumoi Sumoll Garnatxa wine is made with this variety accompanied by another native variety, the Garnacha. The grapes come from vines lying at an altitude of 600 metres above sea level and cultivated according to biodynamic principles. The grapes are manually harvested and pressed in the cellar, then fermented with native yeasts in the winery with minimal intervention in stainless steel tanks. The wine remains in stainless steel tanks for 12 months until it is finally bottled without fining or filtering and without adding any oenological products.
Can Sumoi is the high altitude and low intervention project from Pepe Raventós of the celebrated Raventós i Blanc winery. Can Sumoi focuses entirely on still wine and mono-varietal ancestral method sparklers made from indigenous, mountaintop varieties.
