Cantina del Pino "Albesani" Barbaresco DOCG 2020
"Like a beautiful piece of art that reveals new depths with each encounter this wine opens with aromas of warm, macerating strawberries with freshly cut mint and thyme. Notes of roses add a touch of refined beauty to the composition. Initially, the wine seems delicate and understated, but as it breathes, its true depth and complexity shine through as mixed wild berry preserves harmonize with savory notes of dried leaves and fresh porcini, while a chalky, salty minerality adds an intriguing dimension to the wine. The tannins are as elegant as a perfectly tailored suit, perfectly balanced by vibrant acidity that keeps the wine engaging and dynamic." - Wine Enthusiast
Cantina del Pino, one of Barbaresco’s most respected traditional producers, crafts wines that highlight the finesse and structure of their top crus. Albesani, a south-facing vineyard with limestone-rich soils, is known for producing some of the most powerful and long-lived Barbarescos. The 2020 vintage, marked by purity and balance, enhances the vineyard’s hallmark richness and aromatic complexity.
Ripe red cherry, raspberry, and dried rose petals lead, layered with notes of anise, tobacco, and crushed stone. The tannins are firm yet finely textured, providing structure while allowing the wine’s energy and elegance to shine. While already showing promise with extended decanting, this Barbaresco will develop beautifully over the next 15–20 years. A perfect match for braised meats, truffle risotto, or aged cheeses, Albesani is a stunning expression of Barbaresco’s depth and grace.
Cantina del Pino possesses some of the oldest vines in Barbarersco. Grape production has been part of the Vacca family for four generations, with their most famous vineyard holdings centered around the Ovello cru. The Vacca family has been living and working the vines at Cantina del Pino since the 1920s, when Giuseppe Vacca, bought the property. When his first son was born, Vacca planted a Pine tree at the top of Ovello and over time it became known as Cantina del Pino. That tree, depicted on the label, still stands today.
