Cantina del Pino’s 2020 Barbaresco "Gallina" is a wine that captures the essence of its legendary terroir. Sourced from the Gallina vineyard, one of the finest crus in Barbaresco, this Nebbiolo shows a grace and precision that speaks to both the land and the winemaking philosophy. The Gallina vineyard’s soil composition, combined with its ideal exposure to the sun, allows for the production of wines that are both powerful and refined.
Right from the start, this wine shows its pedigree. Red fruit—cherry, raspberry—dominates the nose, with delicate floral notes of rose and violet lingering in the background. As it moves across the palate, the wine reveals its true depth. There’s a fine tannic structure that gives the wine a firm backbone, but it’s balanced by a subtle silkiness that keeps things elegant. The finish is long and precise, with hints of tobacco and a touch of earth, promising even more complexity with age.
What makes the 2020 Barbaresco "Gallina" so special is its balance. It offers both the aromatic intensity and structure you expect from Nebbiolo, but with a finesse that makes it immediately approachable. Whether enjoyed now or laid down for a few more years, this Barbaresco is a wine that shines with food -- pair it with classic Piedmont dishes like truffle risotto, tajarin with butter and sage, or roast meats. It’s a wine that reflects both the craftsmanship of Cantina del Pino and the soul of Barbaresco.
Cantina del Pino possesses some of the oldest vines in Barbarersco. Grape production has been part of the Vacca family for four generations. The Vacca family has been living and working the vines at Cantina del Pino since the 1920s, when Giuseppe Vacca bought the property. When his first son was born, Vacca planted a Pine tree at the top of Ovello and over time it became known as Cantina del Pino. That tree, depicted on the label, still stands today.
