Cascina Principe Vacca Gaia Principe Barbaresco DOCG 2019
The Barbaresco Gaia Principe DOCG captivates the most discerning palates. Made from overmaturated Nebbiolo grapes from the prestigious "Gaia Principe" vineyard, the wine stands out for its ethereal bouquet that hints at violets. On the palate, it is a full-bodied, spicy, rich and complex wine that reveals new sensations and nuances of fruit and aromatic herbs with each sip. Grown on calcareous clay and marlstone soils, the wine presents itself in a ruby-red color enriched with orange hues.
Barbaresco wine embodies all the characteristics of the territory from which it originates, preserving them over time. Only the best Nebbiolo grapes are harvested and taken to the cellar where this natural and extraordinary transformation takes place and is completed only after a minimum of two years of aging in large oak barrels.
The importance of this wine derives from its ability to improve over the years. The young wine is at least three years old, and it can be refined in the bottle, improving its characteristics for many years, so much so that it is not possible to date a possible gustatory maturity.
Cascina Principe was built in 1683 at the request of the Prince of Cisterna d'Asti as his estate. Even then, his cellar produced the four historic wines of Neive: Nebbiolo, Moscato, Barbera and Dolcetto. Passed during the 19th century to the Countess De Maria di Neive, it was then purchased together with its lands in 1894 by the Vacca brothers Giovanni and Luigi. For more than a hundred years the fate of the Cascina has been linked to the name of the Vacca family.
In the second half of the last century, the historic underground cellar was enlarged thanks to the commitment of Luigi’s son: Mario, an Alpine veteran from the Second World War. His example was then followed by his son Giuseppe. Towards the end of the eighties, he enlarged the company and gradually increased the vineyards, cultivating them with the utmost respect for the environment, according to integrated agriculture methods. Today the heirs, Federico (Agronomist) and Stefano (Winemaker), continue the business with the passion of producing a wine linked to tradition, but in step with innovation.
