Castel Pujol "Folklore" Naranja 2025
This intriguing unfiltered wine with light-orange hues from Uruguay is produced from a blend of 90% Trebbiano and 10% Petit Manseng skins. A beautiful orange in the glass, the nose offers intriguing floral aromas that lead to a pleasantly herbal palate with notes of grapefruit, white peach and hints of dried sage buoyed by refreshing acidity and texture for days. Soft flavors of stone fruit and chamomile tea are supported by gripping tannins and good acidity.
The hand-harvested grapes are farmed in deep, sandy red soils of alluvial origin, derived from volcanic materials washed down over millions of years to form iron-rich sediment characterized by great depth and excellent drainage. The Trebbiano clusters are destemmed directly into the tanks and undergo maceration with their own skins—along with Petit Manseng skins—for a period of three months. Fermented using selected indigenous yeasts. Subsequently bottled with minimal handling to preserve its full freshness, with nominal SO2 levels.
Bodega Cerro Chapeu was launched in 1975 by the Carrau family of Cerro Chapeu after starting one of the first vineyard reconversions in the country. The vineyards are located in the red, deep and sand soils of Cerro Chapeu, on the border line between Uruguay and Brazil. Their philosophy is low intervention winemaking in balance with the environment.
The gravity-based winery was built within a hill in 1997, and by combining innovative oenological techniques with the family experience that characterizes Cerro Chapeu, the result is truly unique wine. The Castel Pujol "Folklore" line aims to continue that innovation through alternative vinification methods applied to various grapes sourced from the Cerro Chapeu vineyards.
