Cowhorn GSM 2021

Somewhat dense aromas of raspberry, cherry and currant pop from the glass, opening to lighter scents of bay laurel, sage, dried cranberry, hibiscus and crisp early rhubarb. The palate is equally lively, with red fruit melding with layers of citrus zest and hibiscus as it develops. Polished tannins and good acidity deliver good structure and lead to a lingering, savory finish that sees the cranberry and a touch of sage deliver versatility and depth.

Consisting of 36% Grenache, 49% Syrah and 15% Mourvèdre, the Cowhorn estate GSM is a vintage snapshot of the red varieties planted across the vineyard. They ferment and age each of the red cultivars separately in mostly neutral french oak, using natural methods and only minimal additions of sulfur. The Grenache sets the overall tone, with bright playful red fruit and lifted citrus tones. The Syrah provides darkly concentrated aromas and determined structure, and the Mourvèdre inserts brooding background savory notes and textural depth. The acids and tannins present and course the palate with a fresh and lively ease. 

Cowhorn Vineyard & Garden grows grape varietals that are historically associated with the Rhône River wine region of France. All of Cowhorn’s wines are made with 100% estate-grown fruit from 25 planted acres, receiving more than 100 90+ scores over the years. A certified biodynamic winery and farm, Cowhorn is nestled in the fertile Applegate Valley of southern Oregon, just a few miles north of the California border. 

Cowhorn’s nature-focused farming and harmony with the ecosystem as a whole provide a site-specific wine that represents a sense of time and place. Vinified using a low-intervention approach, the result is an unmistakable wine that reflects the healthy, nutrient-rich vineyard from which it comes.
