Esporão Reserva Red 2021
Intense Ruby. Aromas of wildberries with hues of blackberries and ripe plum, complemented with spicy notes of cinnamon and liquorice. Rich and elegant on the palate, with notes of wild berries and sweet spices. Harmonious and fresh with a persistent and balanced finish.
This is the first wine made by Esporão in 1985, a classic made exclusively with grapes from 20 year old vines and organic farming certification, a blend of 25% Alicante Bouschet, 25% Touriga Nacional, 20% Aragonez, 15% Trincadeira and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon. The diversity of Herdade do Esporão, together with the different characteristics of the grape varieties, the soils, the maturity of the vines and the character of those who make this wine consistently over the years results in a rich, intense but always harmonious wine.
Each variety was vinified separately, destemmed, crushed, temperature controlled alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel vats, concrete tanks and small marble lagares, pressed, followed by malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks. 12 months in new (20%) and old (80%) American and French oak barrels. After bottling, the wine aged at least six months in the bottle.
This vast estate, whose boundaries have remained unchanged for 750 years, has produced a rich, yet elegant expression in keeping with its reputed style. Full of black fruits and concentrated, still-young tannins; wood aging adds polish.
Every year a new artist is invited to illustrate the Esporão Reserva labels, and each work tells a story that is completed within. This year's label was illustrated by Alexandre Conefrey.
