Esporão Reserva White 2022
Crystal clear, light straw color with golden hues. Intense aromas with citrus and white peach aroma nicely integrated with toasty and spice notes. On the palate, elegant and fresh, notes of flamboyant tropical fruit, fresh pineapple and succulent star fruit with an exotic hint of Piña Colada and an edge of Pernod (anise). Boisterous. Persistent and vibrant finish.
Esporão Reserva was the first wine produced by Esporão, in 1985, born from a desire to produce the best wines in Alentejo. Over the years, it has been a wine that has led the winemakers to innovate, grow, examine their origins, care about nature, and see beyond. They have adopted sustainable agricultural practices, and more recently, converted to certified organic farming, built new wineries and traveled to other markets, taking Alentejo and Portugal to the world.
A blend of regional varietals 40% Antão Vaz, 30% Arinto and 30% Roupeiro from 17 to 27 year-old vines. Destemming, cold settling, skin maceration, pressing, must decantation, temperature-controlled fermentation 75% of the batch in stainless steel tanks and 25% in new American and French oak barrels. Six months in stainless steel tanks and in new American and French oak barrels, with ageing on fine lees.
This vast estate, whose boundaries have remained unchanged for 750 years, has produced a rich, yet elegant expression in keeping with its reputed style. Full of black fruits and concentrated, still-young tannins; wood aging adds polish.
Every year a new artist is invited to illustrate the Esporão Reserva labels, and each work tells a story that is completed within. This year's label was illustrated by Alexandre Conefrey.
