Gota Wine "Prunus" Dão Tinto 2024
Prunus Tinto is an elegant, medium-bodied Portuguese red with a vibrant ruby hue and expressive aromas of black cherry, plum and juicy dark berries accented by wild herbs, anise and a hint of white pepper. The palate is fresh and succulent, with tart cherry and raspberry flavors layered with subtle chocolate and earthy minerality. Silky tannins, crisp acidity and a creamy texture carry the wine to a long, refreshing finish. Approachable and beautifully balanced.
Sourced from dry-farmed vineyards in Portugal’s mountainous Dão region, the wine blends native varieties including Jaén, Tinta Roriz, Alfrocheiro and Touriga Nacional. The vines grow in granite and clay soils at elevations of roughly 200–400 meters, where cool nights help preserve the grapes’ freshness and acidity. Hand-harvested fruit undergoes a brief cold soak in stainless steel followed by native-yeast fermentation with a combination of destemmed and whole-cluster fruit. The wine then spends six months in French and Portuguese oak followed by six months in bottle before release, allowing its fruit to shine while keeping oak influence subtle.
Gota Wine was founded by Natalia Jessa with a simple yet ambitious goal: to craft authentic, aromatic Portuguese wines that offer exceptional value. Drawing on years of travel and relationships throughout Portugal’s wine country, she collaborates with local growers to select grapes that express each vintage and the character of their region. Gota emphasizes native varieties, dry-farmed vineyards and minimal intervention, favoring freshness and authenticity over heavy extraction or oak. The name Gota means “drop” — a fitting reflection of this thoughtful project’s small beginnings and its focus on capturing the essence of Portugal in every bottle.
