Joseph Mellot "Le Tronsec" Pouilly Fumé 2023

This single vineyard Pouilly Fumé made with 100% Sauvignon Blanc shows delicate mineral notes balanced with flavours of mango and citrus.

Saint Laurent l'Abbaye is adjacent to Sancerre but doesn't have the name recognition. These Sauv Blanc grapes are grown in practically the same terrior, so this drinks like a Sancerre but at a friendlier price point.

Pale gold in colour with brilliant green highlights, the nose offers complexity, freshness and a tangy side, expressing notes of green apple, lime, lemon juice, a slight sweetness of lemon jam, as well as aromas of fresh pineapple, white peach and ripe apricot. There is also a fine floral and herbaceous side: aromas of crushed peppermint, fresh thyme, oregano, oolong tea, lime blossom, acacia, as well as a very fine smoky mineral hint. On the palate, the wine is straight, chiseled, with expressive citrus notes and a sharp acidity. It expresses notes of fresh yellow lemon, lime jam, yellow lemon zest, green apple, a herbaceous touch of peppermint, boxwood and fresh tea leaf, as well as a delicate roundness of stone fruits. The finish is long, lively and tangy, with notes of fresh citrus fruits, a fine bitterness of grapefruit and lime as well as a delicate smoky side of flint. A refined and complex wine.

Le Tronsec is a single vineyard of 9.5 hectares, located in the commune of Saint Laurent l'Abbaye. The vines are planted on soils primarily composed of Kimmeridgian limestone marl. This is typified by a stoney surface and clay deeper down. All vineyard processes are carried out in an environmental manner, adapted for each terroir.
