La Scolca Gavi DOCG White Label 2023

100% Cortese, La Scolca Gavi is pale straw yellow with greenish hues, and a typical Gavi nose of fine almonds and citrus fruit. The taste is delicate and dry, crisp and refreshing acidity, characterised by an acidulous vein reminiscent of almonds.

La Scolca's White Label Gavi is vinified from grapes hand-harvested from exuberant young vineyards located in the heart of Rovereto of Gavi, a place known worldwide as the “Gran Crù of Gavi.” Their perfectly balanced aging lends the wine its typical fresh, dry taste. This “Great White,” which has become a Classic on the Italian wine scene, produced in a complete accord which is now a century-old tradition, represent the true essence of Gavi wine.

La Scolca led the movement to establish an exciting, new quality level for dry Italian white wines when the Soldati family launched their Gavi dei Gavi in 1966. Gavi comes from a small growing area in northwestern Italy located north of Genoa on the steep slopes of the Ligurian Apennines in Piedmont. The 62-acre La Scolca estate, owned and directed by Giorgio Soldati, is situated in one of the best communes, Rovereto. La Scolca is an artisinal winery which pioneered modern, controlled vinification in stainless steel to preserve the subtle fruit of the Cortese grape. Yields are kept low, well below the legal maximum, through severe pruning and thinning.

Their signature sur lie winemaking method, where the wine remains in contact with yeast sediment until bottling, not only enhances flavors and aromas but also allows for minimal use of sulfites, offering a healthier, more natural product for consumers.
