La Villana Vino Rosato 2024
This Rosato is La Villana's most sought-after wine. Crafted from 100% Aleatico using a masterful blend of macerated and direct-press techniques, this wine delivers what serious rosato lovers crave: captivating floral aromatics with rose petal notes that linger beautifully. The wine is a clear, delightful and utterly distinct, with flavors of candied lemons, flower bushels, raspberry jam, strawberry ring pop, rosemary and red liquorice ropes. The semi-aromatic profile paired with vibrant acidity creates a wine that's both indulgent and refreshingly food-friendly.
In 2013 Joy Kull left her fast-paced life in New York City and moved to Italy to learn the art of winemaking. After apprenticing for a year with another winery, she ventured out on her own and started La Villana with just a few old vineyards and a tiny garage. The first vintage was enjoyed by Joy and Simone's wedding guests in 2016. Today, La Villana farms nearly 5 ha of old and new vineyards and produces roughly 30,000 bottles per year.
In 2021, Joy made the decision to no longer till or plough her soils. In doing so, the soils are slowly regenerating themselves without interruption. She broadcasts seeds and cuts the grass by hand. The prunings are chipped and left to decompose on the soil floor. In return, the healthy soils provide a magical home for the roots of our vines to thrive.
In the cellar, she adheres strongly to a philosophy of minimal intervention. She does not filter, fine, or use any additives whatsoever. The wines are made from 100% grapes to ensure that the wines are a pure reflection of the vintage.
The name of the estate, La Villana, is a derogatory slang term shepherds in the area use for farmers. Joy just so happened to have married a local shepherd, so the name is a playful riff on her home life. The joke extends to the wines' beautiful hand-drawn labels which always feature sheep.
