Steakhouse nostalgia sets the tone as the 2022 Las Jaras Steak House Cabernet Sauvignon arrives with confidence, warmth and an easygoing sense of pleasure. Built to echo old-school American classics, this wine blends savory depth with juicy charm, delivering a Cabernet that feels polished yet relaxed, ready for the table and ready to drink.

Sultry aromas of boysenberry, plum, and cocoa rise from the glass, setting a rich and inviting tone. The palate opens with damson plum and black cherry, layered with cocoa powder and soft violet notes. A seamless mid-palate carries the wine forward before tapering into refined, supple tannins. The finish is long, balanced and savory, offering both structure and ease in equal measure.

87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Zinfandel. The Cabernet Sauvignon was grown organically at Vinegrove Vineyard in Sonoma’s Dry Creek Valley. This secluded site features gravelly Laughlin loam soils on varied aspects, producing small berries with intense flavor and natural balance. The vines were originally planted about 30 years ago. The Zinfandel portion comes from dry-farmed old vines at the Lee Testa Block in Mendocino, a heritage site known for wines of energy, spice and plush fruit.

Las Jaras is a labor of friendship between long-time California winemaker Joel Burt and comedian Eric Wareheim (of Master of None, Tim & Eric fame). Their growers are practicing or certified organic. The winery name (“The Arrows” in Spanish) comes from one of the lottery cards that Joel’s Mexican coworkers would leave behind at his old table grape farm job.

The goal for Las Jaras is to make delicious wine that has tons of energy and balance. They want their wine to be vibrant, delicate and supple, while also being food friendly and easy for anyone to enjoy. The wines are intended to reflect the unique terroir of the vineyards using minimal intervention, so you can taste their natural, rhythmic expression.

Eric has a deep love of the classic American steakhouse — those hidden gems where care, hospitality and craftsmanship reign supreme. He even wrote a book about it, so they thought it would be fun to make a wine that captures that timeless, old-school character. So they created a Cabernet Sauvignon that has a bold, savory depth of character but with a touch of juicy exuberance from Zinfandel, making a wine that is approachable and relaxed.
