Luigi Giordano Vino Rosso 2024
Luigi Giordano Rosso is brilliant translucent ruby red with a bouquet boasting crunchy red cherry, peach skin and dried roses. This light-bodied red is at once electric and refreshing, bright and juicy, with ripened fruit flavors of strawberry and cherry. Low tannins and high acid gives the wine a beating freshness. Serve with a slight chill.
This wine is a unique blend of 80% Nebbiolo and 20% Arneis harvested from estate vineyards located inside the historic village of Barbaresco. The addition of Arneis gives this wine a great aromatic lift with scents of ripe raspberry and strawberry, accented by notes of berry blossom, spice and leather.
The original recipe for Tuscany’s Chianti Classico included a splash of white grapes to balance Sangiovese’s hearty tannins. A similar tradition emerged in the Piedmont’s Roero region, where the best red grape, Nebbiolo, was often too acidic and tannic to enjoy solo, so winemakers would add the region’s white grape, Arneis, creating a delicious country wine for everyday enjoyment.
A stone’s throw from the village center of Barbaresco, the winery was established by Giovanni Giordano in the 1930s during a time of profound crisis in the Italian wine world. After a period of growing and selling grapes, Giovanni’s son, Luigi, made the bold decision to vinify his own fruit, bottling the first wine under his own label in 1958. For an independent grower like Luigi to bottle his own wine at a time when plans to establish an official appellation in Barbaresco were only in their infancy was nearly unthinkable.
Today’s winery remains a spirited family effort, driven by the shared vision of Luigi himself, his daughter Laura and his grandson Matteo. Together, they produce timeless wines from vineyards planted in some of Barbaresco’s most prestigious crus, showcasing the winery’s elegant, hands-off style of winemaking.
