Marchesi Biscardo Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG 2022
Deep ruby-red with bright highlights in the glass. Saddle leather, horsehide, black currant, raisins and dried cherry comprise the lean, rustic nose. The flavors veer toward fresh fruits and spice, with a bit of chocolate, caramel and tobacco mixed with mint -- cigar box flavor. Velvety, warm, well balanced and complex on the palate with a lingering excellent finish and soft tannins.
This wine is made using the traditional appassimento method. A blend of 60-70% Corvina, 20-30% Rondinella and 5-10% Molinara grapes are harvested by hand and dried on racks for 3–4 months to concentrate sugars and flavors. The raisins are then slowly fermented for 35–50 days and aged in oak for 2-5 years.
