Matias Riccitelli "The Apple Doesn't Fall Far From the Tree" Cabernet Sauvignon 2023

Named because Matias Riccitelli is following in the footsteps of his winemaking father, this Cabernet Sauvignon was made with fruit grown organically at 1000m in Mendoza. The clusters are destemmed and naturally transferred by gravity into small concrete vessels. Fermentation occurs without any additives at cool temperatures for several weeks. Aging continues in French oak barrels until the next harvest. Full-bodied, deep ruby color, aged in French oak for 12 months, resulting in soft tannins and a silky finish with hints of olives, berries and spices. 

Matías Riccitelli farms 20 hectares spread across three different terroirs at the base of the Andes Mountains between 980-1120 meters of altitude. He also makes a few wines even higher up down in Patagonia. Without a doubt, these are wines of altitude, and they show it. Maximum expression of variety with balanced freshness and acidity. Matías is a native Argentine born in Cafayete, who has travelled and harvested at countless wineries around the world. After collecting experience for over a decade, he dedicated himself to learning as much as possible from the various terroirs of Mendoza he now looks after and founded Riccitelli Wines in 2009. His father, Jorge Riccitelli, was the first Latin American to be elected "Winemaker of the Year" (Wine Enthusiast) in 2012, and without a doubt is a huge mentor for his son's fresh enthusiasm.

All fruit is hand-picked, the wines are fermented with exclusively indigenous yeasts. Seeing minimal intervention, the wines are exciting and energetic. Unfiltered, unfined, no sulfur, no acidifying. As natural as it gets. They consistently offer exceptional value, even at the higher end.
