Robert Sinskey "Vin Gris" Rosé of Pinot Noir Los Carneros 2023
This shimmering Vin Gris of Pinot Noir has a luminosity that cannot be pinned down with one or two descriptors. It’s vibrant and luscious with aromatics and flavors of wild strawberry, pear, jasmine, tart bing cherry, watermelon, rock candy and stone fruit, contrasted with an underlying tone of crisp, clean meyer lemon and an ethereal high note of citrus blossom. The delicate pale salmon color is a reflection of the long, cool growing season. A sip unfurls an array of delicious, mouthwatering fruit, flower and soft herb flavors that open up limitless food pairing possibilities.
The organically farmed Carneros Vineyards produce top quality Pinot Noir grapes that were night harvested and brought to the cellar, naturally chilled and dew kissed, where they were whole-cluster pressed to separate the juice from the skins to capture the pure, delicate essence of the Pinot Noir grape. The juice was then cold fermented to preserve the beautiful, bright and floral fruit aromatics.
Robert Sinskey Vineyards is celebrating 40 years of growing grapes and making wine in California. When they started making Rosé of Pinot Noir 35 years ago, they didn't want to call it a Rosé or Blush, as the category had been tainted by overly sweet pink confections that sold well in grocery and liquor stores, while fine dining restaurants treated any pink wine as if it were vampire repellant. So they called it a Vin Gris, and made it with the best quality Pinot Noir grapes from their organically farmed Carneros vineyards. The idea was to make a vibrant, crisp and pure wine that could go with a wide array of cuisine from different cultures, a rosé that you can dress up or dress down.
