Rogue Vine "Jamón Jamón" Grand Itata White 2023
Jamón Jamón is aromatic, with orange peel, white flowers, peach, dried fruits, flowers, spices, and a fruity earthiness. Crisp on the palate, with notes of quince and marzipan with honeysuckle and a mineral-driven finish. Expressive just starts to describe this wine.
This is 100% Moscatel from a 70-year-old, 5-acre organic and dry-farmed vineyard planted in the Guarilihue region of Itata. Guarilihue is known for its many old vines of Cinsault and Moscatel. The vineyard is located at 820 feet above sea level on granite soil. The winemaking is simple, made in the Itata tradition with extended maceration. Native yeast, seven-week maceration, followed by aging in a mix of concrete and old barrels. Unfined, unfiltered, no additions.
Rogue Vine is a two-man winemaking team making incredibly expressive wines from Southern Chile. Based in Itata, near Concepcion and 300 miles south of Santiago, this was the original winemaking region in South America, with the first vineyards being planted in the early 16th century. This is a region of granite hillsides and old vineyards that were forgotten by the world, but not the locals.
