Tenuta San Francesco "ED" Costa D'Amalfi Rosato DOC 2023
This Amalfi Coast rosé presents itself in a lively and pale rose-petal pink color, particularly luminous. Its aroma is intense and primarily fruity, with notes of black cherry, raspberry, wild strawberry, rose and delicate spicy hints. On the palate, it is refined and delicate, with mineral and saline undertones. The freshness is captivating and beautifully balanced by an elegant softness and pleasant acidity that prolongs the finish.
Produced from 80% Piedirosso and 20% Tintore grapes grown on steeply sloping terraced vineyards using traditional pergola and espalier systems located between 300 and 600 meters above sea level. To ensure simplicity and freshness, this rosé is fermented and aged 6-8 months only in stainless steel, then bottle aged for an additional 1-3 months. Combined with the unique and unrepeatable terroir of the Amalfi Coast, this results in a rosé with a satisfying and surprising drinkability.
Tenuta San Francesco is located in the Tramonti, in a vally on the Sorrento peninsula. Tramonti means “between the mountains.” The winery was started by four friends in 2004 to revive the viticultural tradition of the area, using very old vines that are, in some cases, 400-500 years old. The “pomice” volcanic rocks absorb water in the winter and release it in summer, so no irrigation is needed.
Tenuta di San Francesco aims to preserve its monumentality, the historical and cultural value of such a rarity by paying attention to the type of natural, non-invasive cultivation, a non-certified organic viticulture that tends to defend what is the authenticity of the flavors of these centuries-old vines. It is defined as heroic cultivation, because the vines are arranged in terraces on sloping terrain, in inaccessible points where harvesting is difficult, between 200 to 600 meters above sea level. All work in the vineyard must be done by hand.
