Two Shepherds Grenache Noir 2022
Two Shepherds planted their Grenache "Austin and Arya" vineyard in 2011, back when folks thought they were crazy for doing so. Grenache is a rarity in the west Russian River, where the cool climate produces a wine of balance and finesse. Named for the two Aussie Shepherds who frolic among the vines everyday (Austin and Arya), this Grenache is planted in narrow 3' x 3' rows, farmed organically, regeneratively, and hand-tended by the winemakers. Native yeast fermented, 10 months in neutral puncheons. Light, delicate, nuanced, a ballet in the glass. Only 144 cases made.
Two Shepherds focuses on Rhône and rare, uncommon varieties, often from the only Two Shepherds focuses on Rhône and rare, uncommon varieties, often from the only few acres available in California. While their total production is small, the offerings are vast. Nicknamed “insane master of small lots,” winemaker William Allen crafts abotu 15 different wines each vintage, including some that are only 1-2 barrels. Their old-world style, free from manipulation, allows for the ture expression of the variety, vintage and vineyard.
