Vignoble Edmond Latour Vacqueyras 2022
Dark red in color, deep purple tints, good clarity and brightness. The nose is open with scrubland fragrances (laurel, rosemary) and something fresh, almost camphor (thyme). Then an explosion of black fruit with aeration (blackberry, candied cherry). Nice balance, typical of the successes of the Rhone Valley in this vintage. A perfect light oak complexity. The mouth is powerful, voluminous. Delicious sweetness from the outset. Tannic, but the tannins are well coated and smooth, so the balance between power and freshness is perfect.
80% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 5% Mourvedre. Vacqueyras was an original cru of southern Côtes-du-Rhône wines and gained its own AOP in 1990. Its terroir is located at the foot and on the sides of the Dentelles de Montmirail massif, and extends over the municipalities of Vacqueyras and the Hautes Garrigues de Sarrians, over an area of 1300 hectares.
Domaine de l’ Espigouette is now run by Bernard Latour, his wife and two sons, Julian and Emilien. The wine is named for their grandfather, Edmond Latour. It is an organically grown vineyard that has been family run for four generations, and is located in the Rhone Valley of France. The diversity of the soil allows for complexity to the different wines of this area, the hills provide rich, bold wines, while sandy, clay soils provide elegance, finesse and depth. The vines have an average age of 45 years old. The family works in the vineyards and selects the grapes for maximum ripeness and concentration.
