Bodega Ambora "Villa De Tegueste" Tinto 2022
Villa De Tegueste Tinto offers aromas of blackberry, oak and tobacco, followed by savory flavors of smoke, licorice, cherry and spice on the palate. Dry and earthy, with a mineral edge. A very elegant Canary Islands tinto.
A traditional co-ferment of Listan Negro and Negramoll from Tegueste, a beatuitful terroir within Tenerife. The grapes are grown on 60-80+ year old vines, harvested by hand and vinified together. The majority is Listán Negro, with some Negramoll and Listán Blanco and a touch of Gual, Marmajuelo and Malvasia, macerated with 30% whole cluster inclusion for 5-6 days and natively fermented in stainless steel. Pressed and aged for nine months in stainless steel tank, no filtration. 2,000 bottles produced. The Negramoll and native white varieties soften the more angular Listán Negro, giving breathing room to savory, forest-driven aromatics (and a touch of spice).
Ambora is the work of fourth generation grower and winemaker Felipe Hernandez González, who has transformed his family’s tiny two hectares from bulk grape production into making handcrafted, terroir-driven wines, with annual output of only about 5,000 bottles. Given Ambora's style and Canary terroir, expect a refined, elegant Pinot‑like red -- juicy, mineral, ethereal and transparent in expression.
